Gunther and his brother Gomer say their pet parent John is no stranger to the funeral business and has been a Vermont State Funeral Director, licensed since 1984. John is extensively active in his community, donating much of his time and financial support to promote a sense of community and to the improvement in the quality of life in Essex, Fairfax and surrounding areas.

Currently John is a supporting member of the Essex Dog Park. He is a third generation native of Essex and served as a past member on the Essex Town Select Board. He was instrumental in the Essex Town purchase of the Indian Brook Reservoir. 

He has an uncompromising commitment to quality, professional service and believes that each pet parent deserves dignified and personalized services for their family pets. He understands the same quality of service and grieving is necessary for the loss of a person or a pet.

Ozzie and Regit tell us their mom Kara has been a member of A. W. Rich family since 1998 and currently resides in North Carolina. Growing up on a farm she has never been without a special pet by her side. Kara has had that special bond with animals from her favorite cow "Horney" who got its name from the shape of her horns, to the special friendship with her beloved dogs to her everlasting devotion to her many cats, birds and even fish.

She and her husband Kevin lived in Fairfax, VT for 12 years. Together they have 4 children and moved to North Carolina in 2007. Not wanting to leave her funeral home and family behind, and with the power of the internet, she is able to continue as a valued member of the team.

She plays an integral part in creating personalized obituaries and web site tributes to our families. Kara's friendly personality is comforting to our families at their time of need. She has a deep understanding about the loss of a pet and is very compassionate with her love for all animals.
